This year we have two Coronation Guests Katherine Kelly - Becky Granger (McDonald) |
Antony Cotton - Sean Tully |
Katherine Kelly's character Becky Granger first appears on Corrie Street in February 2006. She is a difficult character to like when she frames her friend Kelly Crabtree for a theft at underworld. After betraying Kelly she leaves the street for several months, but returns and meets her former workmate Hayley Cropper, who takes pity on her and offers her a job at Roy's Rolls. Given this second chance, Becky blows it again and steals from the Croppers, losing their trust and her job! Becky's first serious relationship on the street is with Jason Grimshaw. After being with him for several months, Becky cheats on him with pub landlord Steve McDonald. Jason and Becky move in together when Jason reveals that Sarah (his wife) is considering returning home. Becky not only attacks Jason in the Rovers Return but embarks on a night of drunken violence and vandalism. When the police bring Becky in for questioning, she encounters DC Hooch, an adversary from the past. Using her quick wit, Becky claims she was with Steve that night so therefore could not possibly be responsible for any of the charges. Becky blackmails Steve into giving false alibi, by threatening to tell Michelle about their one night stand. Steve feels sorry for Becky when she reveals that Hooch arrested her for shoplifting when she was fifteen, and then attempted to molest her. She filed a complaint against him, and since then he has been determined to get his revenge as he is continually passed over for promotions since the incident. During the trial, Steve falls in love with her and they begin an affair with Steve promising to leave Michelle. Eventually he does keep his promise but not fast enough for Becky who reunites with Jason. Jason proposes, Steve proposes, Steve wins! Wedding day arrives and lo and behold Becky gets extremely drunk on champagne and the priest refuses to perform the ceremony. Waking up the next day, Becky believes she is married but Michelle gets her revenge by revealing that the marriage never happened. Where will we go from here? Katherine Kelly has won several awards for her portrayal of Becky. During her time on Coronation Street she has morphed Becky from a thieving tearaway into a vulnerable young woman. Katherine has the honour of playing the 50th barmaid in the Rovers Return Inn in June 2008. Hard to believe, an ex-con barmaid in the Rovers Return! |
Antony Cotton portraying Sean Tully first appeared on Coronation Street on July 13, 2003. A hospital party was the setting… Karl Foster, friend of Martin Platt made the introductions and shortly after that Sean witnessed Martin punching Katy Harris' boyfriend Jimmy Mullins. Oh what a ride it has been…… Sean did not re-appear on Corrie until 9 months later out on the town with Karl and Todd Grimshaw. After Todd's departure in August, Sean arrived on Coronation Street for good. Desperate for somewhere to live, Eileen Grimshaw comes to the rescue and offers Sean lodging. This decision briefly splits up Eileen and her other son Jason but soon all is well at the Grimshaw residence. Sean is a stereotypical character who has had several shallow brief relationships during his time on the street. He now works at Underworld and The Rovers where he meets Violet who turns out to be his best friend and mother of his baby. The baby is conceived through self administered artificial insemination. Sean accompanies Violet to her twelve week scan where he meets Marcus, a love blooms once again. Sean loses Marcus due to his outrageous jealousy. Sean also loses his baby boy when Violet and Jamie run away with him to London. Boyfriends later, Sean still remains a favourite on Coronation Street and his storyline is once again heating up. Stay tuned, you never know what is going to happen. Antony Cotton has won a number of awards since the characters first appearance, including a prestigious National Television Award. We welcome Antony to the 20Th Anniversary British Isles Show Canada. |
